Feeling GREAT!!

Yesterday afternoon it was beautiful!!  Hubby and I took advantage of that and took two of our girls (plus a daycare child) and our handsome Doberman, Jude, for a walk at the dog park.  It was fantastic!  We walked the entire park and enjoyed watching him play with the other dogs.  It feels wonderful to be out and getting exercise!
After dinner we went out for another walk with all of our girls and Jude.  A nice, brisk walk around our neighbourhood was perfect.  Although I felt like I might be running my second born into the ground, or maybe just dragging her around the neighbourhood!
More walks for today, off to a different dog park today with Jude's puppy pal Diesel!

Success!!

For dinner this evening I prepared red quinoa cooked in chicken stock with onion and garlic with steamed broccoli on top.  A balsamic vinegar/brown sugar glazed pork tenderloin and some new potatoes roasted in the same pan for my husband.  All of my girls liked everything!  Success!!!  Now my battle for the evening....to not snack myself into oblivion.....

Also, on another note, I am hoping for another success tonight!  My youngest daughter is soon to be 11 months old and up until last night had been co-sleeping with me.  Last night she went to sleep fairly quickly in her crib and stayed there until about 4am!!!  So far so good tonight as well!  Maybe 2 minutes of crying and now she sleeps!  *fingers crossed*

Change is good!

Well, I've had it in my mind (the very BACK of my mind) for quite some time now.  Finally, I've brought that thought to action it's time for change!  First and most importantly is to change the way I eat, and how I feed my family.  We didn't eat horribly before but not all that great either to be honest.
First item to get the axe from the menu, anything made from white flour.  Pasta, rice, tortillas and all the usual snacky, sugar-filled junk.  In it's place is a large list of body, loving grains.
Roll call:
Bulgar
Kasha
Barley
Lentils
Wheat Berries
Millet
Orzo
Whole Wheat Couscous
Kamut
Red Quinoa
Israeli Couscous
And, of course only whole wheat or whole grain breads and pasta which we usually did anyhow.  The next journey for me is to scour the net for some amazing recipes to use all of my wonderful grains!
To replace all of the sugar, starch and (let's face it) empty calorie snacks we have a line-up of veggies and fruit!
My children really do make this very easy on me too!  They will eat just about anything you put in front of them, at the very least, they give it a try.  My husband as well, although he's not AS open to the change as the girls are!
So...why am I writing this all here?  To keep myself accountable!!  This is something I've wanted for quite some time now and it is now time!  My girls will learn good eating habits for life!  We all benefit, short term and long term!  Let's not forget it will help to take off those last 20 or so pounds that are hanging out since having Aspen....next step....lots more exercise!
